How Kanye West solved the music industry's problem singlehandedly

Can't quote from an iPhone but this is to Mini George:
Main stream music is lacking IMO, esecially when it comes to hip-hop. Most of the truly talented artists in the hip-hop world never have their best songs hit the radio. I recommend listen to some of Kanye's stuff that has not been on the radio. There's a good chance it will change your mind.
Also, on the topic of talentless rappers as a lot of people here seem to think Kanye is, check out The album TSOL from Shad. He's a rapper from Canada and it's a phenomenal album. No profanity, no egotistical rhymes. Just good, pure, real hip-hop.

I've gotta side with Ashok on the other point of this. It isn't, nor will it ever be warranted arguing with someone what 'good music' or who a talented musician is. Many will always fail to recognize a the talent that is in a genre due to their own stereotypes and tastes.
Let me reiterate this. I HATE Kanye as a person. I have hated his previous albums. This album is brilliant.

plus a million
Whether I like AC/DC more than this guy should have no impact on anyone here. I just listened to my first 2 Kanye songs the whole way through and now know why I change him from the radio if he comes on.
This guy does stupid shit to create a media frenzy to sell albums. Is he stupid or brilliant would be my question. His disrespect for the entire music business is what I would call out first. I don't care who you are or if you've won 60 grammy's he proved himself the lowest form of Smagma with the Taylor Swift fiasco. I don't like her music either but she earned the award and he should have been banned from these awards for this move.
Ashok I disagree that people don't cover AC/DC because they are real artists and AC/DC isn't worth it. People don't try AC/DC, The Who, Rush or Pink Floyd to name a few because the energy created by these bands could never be "covered" Maybe I'm crazy but singing like Bon Scott would be almost impossible. This coupled with their "4 chords" as you state still gets me going when I hear it. Pink Floyd forget about it. These are bands that created their own sound. Kanye hasn't imho. He sounds too much like every other HipHop artist out there.
I like almost every type of music and do enjoy some of the hiphop artists out there but I won't any time soon be changing my ring back tone to Kanye West from the AC/DC "Ride On" it is today

Well I don't think anyone can cover Keith Moon, John Bonham or Neil Peart. So that takes care of two of the bands you mentioned. I never was a huge fan of Pink Floyd but they're obviously immensely talented. But I see vocalists almost every week at Don Hills in NYC that are as good as Bon Scott. And some bands have more energy than you can imagine. Trust me, most musicians I know in NYC would laugh at a band covering AC/DC. AC/DC is the kind of music that plays over and over in college bars with a bunch of kids who have such a poor diversity of music on their iTunes but can sing along with Back in Black or TNT (and funny enough, TNT only has 3 chords in the hook). It's like the Jack Johnson of ten years ago. It's simple enough for most people to "get it" and then they use the argument of its complexity lying in its simplicity. Trust me, that argument doesn't work.
Sorry musical taste is a big pet peeve of mine. And I don't agree with the argument that everyone has their own preferences so let them be. Sorry, sometimes you just have bad taste and need to accept it. Not talking about you h20, because liking AC/DC alone doesn't qualify for bad taste IMO.
ptphotography - I'll check it out, but what's wrong with profanity? Yelling fcuk in NYC is only barely an obscenity lol.
Tom- Not my number one, but definitely a great album.

Yeah normally I don't like mashups, but Girl Talk is dope. What's most impressive about his music is how wide a range of musical knowledge he has. Take a listen to these guys. They remind me sometimes of Girl Talk with the diversity in their musical taste, but consistency in sound. They won DMC (world dj comp.) 3 years in a row. They're so ****ing talented dude.
And anyone who doesn't like hip hop, listen to this as well. Though I expect most of you to say "that isn't hip hop".
YouTube - C2C DMC 2005 (album coming 2011)

Nothing wrong with profanity in music ashokn, but it doesn't need to be f*** this my n**** ima kill you b****. Seems like all that hoodrich music can't even make the radio because it would be all bleeped out. Shad could play on the Disney Channel and still blow your mind.

I like how you cite back in black and TNT as your ac/dc examples. Spend some time listening to their early stuff. It is worlds away from the post BIB sound. Powerage is their best album.
Ad Bon Scott died before you an I were born, talk to guys who saw him in concert before you make blanket statements regarding his talent. Heck, watch some of his live stuff on YouTube, their Apollo theater concert in Scotland, or the rock goes to college videos would be a good place to start.

One of the more important digressions we can extract from the hoopla that this album has created is the implication it will have on a larger scale. Kanye hasn’t colored outside the lines; he’s drawn his own coloring book, filling it with things no rapper had previously thought to include in a hip hop album. It’s like a lot of Artists seek for ways to do the same thing in a different manner, but either way there is a template. I feel that this album is genre bending and gives music as a whole its sonic energy back and it’s exciting to experience.

he rocks for sure though!
