How Kanye West solved the music industry's problem singlehandedly

By the way... the day after the blizzard, I thought it was awesome that 50cent went around shoveling peoples driveways for $100 a pop. Half way through the day he 'employed' 3 kids, paying them out $30 per driveway and $10 for himself.

true hustler.... i fvckin love it.
image fail... hmm??

Too many people to respond to, so I'll just respond to everyone (most of whom I'm sure haven't even heard the album, which in itself disqualifies you to even comment in the thread).
But to put it simply, the world isn't binary people. Being a douchebag doesn't correlate with a lack of talent. Douchebag or not, he's come to terms with who he is and is done explaining himself. I never spoke about his character, but rather that the album is just amazing. Anyone who truly understands music and appreciates music really can't disagree with that. It spans so many genres and is able to fuse them together with such fluidity that you wouldn't even think this is the same guy who's dropped two horrendous albums previously.
I find it incredibly myopic if you think that hip hop as a genre is talentless. Sure it spawns a culture of thuggishness and what not, but that's a derivative of the culture it comes from (black culture in the lower socioeconomic parts of america). And as hip hop evolves, so does the culture. This album being an example of that. I mean if you just use fashion as one metric to measure the culture (since we project ourselves heavily with what we wear), the aesthetic these days is much more clean cut and professional compared to even five years ago.
I think that talent in music can exist in any genre. I think that Rachmaninoff's Prelude (C#Minor) is brilliant. I also think that Moby Dick (LZ) is brilliant. As is When I'm Gone (Eminem) and Family Business (Kanye). Expanding your musical taste beyond a specific genre and finding talent elsewhere is part of being a fan of music is all about.
And it's laughable that the Aussie who thinks I'm a hipster spewing faux intellectual bullshit has an avatar of AC/DC, arguably the worst "rock n roll" band ever, repeating the same 4 chord progressions in different phrasings. Maybe just a bit more talented than Nirvana, and possibly worth having as an avatar if only because they're probably the only band to have come out of that country.
And to everyone who says "oh well because he's a douchebag, I won't support him", who the hell do you support? Rock N Roll musicians who tie 18 year old girls up and stuff raw fish in their twat (Google "Bonham Fish")? Nobody here is a douchebag right? Yeah, until they are.
Anyways, if you want to take a listen, take a listen. It's brilliant, trust me. If you continue to think that hip hop is talentless, well then I'm sorry. Endless curiosity is what drives me but I guess that's not the case with most people. Oh, and this long defense on hip hop is coming from a blues guitarist.

If I went by every artist and actor who did so F'd up things in their personal life or career you would be very limited to what you chose to listen too or watch,Mel Gibson is a good example love his movies think he is an idiot otherwise.

Perfect statement I like all music types and bought this album to give it a listen, it is very well done. If you want to get into greatest hardcore hip-hop albums and or rap I think Paid in Full, Straight outta Compton and the Run-D.M.C. are far better albums then this and more raw, but times have changed and things are a bit more refined, Even the rappers who are more raw then Kanye and Puffy can still never be what the early pioneers like Easy E , Ice Cube, Rakim , Eric B, Big Daddy Kane were and some still are.

Between Eminem, Dre, Kanye, Twista, and a few others, the talent pool in Hip Hop/Rap is very shallow indeed. I know that a lot of young talent is out there, but finding someone to give them the chance to prove themselves, and the time of day to take them under their wing as Dre did Eminem, are few and far between... Don't just write off Hip Hop altogether as a genre because Kanye is a classless POS, and has no couth or manners. Give every type of music a chance, even if you hate it for whatever reason. You may find yourself pleasantly surprised. There; my $0.02 is out.
