The JC to spec an F10 M5
#61
After having the CTSV wagon 6 speed for a while now along with the E90 M3 6 speed, it is clear to me that the manual transmission in the E90 (and the E60) M cars were an after thought.
Not only is the clutch softer than dog poop, the wobbly shifter does nothing to redeem the POS zero feel clutch.
The CTSV manual is pretty enjoyable. Good spacing, good clutch feel, and nice gearing with boat loads of tire burning power.
The M3 (and the E39 M5 manuals) is teh suckage. DCT suits the new M cars better.
BMW has come a long way away from the glory days of the E36 M3 and E39 M5 manual transmissions. Now the manuals they put in M cars just suck.

I'll stick to my guns on the manual in my M3, I've enjoyed it immensely over the almost four years that I've owned the car and I have never once wished I'd gone with the DCT. However, I feel like the gearbox choice for the M5 is being made for me, this car was definitely developed around the DCT box.
The e92 M3, if you guys remember, was only offered in 6MT when they first arrived. Mine was one of those first cars to hit the states by the way.

there is a big big difference between the M5 and M3 though,..#
the M5 was mostly developed and tested / finetuned to work perfect in harmony with the DCT
the MT is just more of a Plug and Play mod that should do the job on the Emmy but not to the level of the DCT
the M3 on the other hand was designed and developed from the beginning e.g in Germany etc with a MT as well...
btw,..don`t miss out on the ED option

THESE ****ING CARS WERE NEVER DESIGNED FOR A MANUAL GEARBOX, IT IS A COMPLETE AFTERTHOUGHT FOR THE DIMWITTED AMERICANS WHO " WANT TO ROW THROUGH THE GEARS IN AN M5", THIS ISN'T A LIGHT(ISH) E28 M5, ITS A HEAVY AS SHIT F10M5. THEY WON'T BE FUTURE CLASSICS, THEY WILL DIE IN THE ASS LIKE THE E60.
