Hah, I'm just back from one week of beer-drinking, football watching eastern europe. I feel bloated as a maddafakkah! My phone got stolen but I'll share som pics when I get some from my friends. I'm nowhere near where I want to be but I feel that I'm in pretty decent shape considering my bad routine lately....

3 mile trail run this morning. Better than last time, no walking involved.

My current routine has now stabilized to:

1 bike, 1 swim, 1 run/wk

1 lifting session for pushing exercises-Bench, dips, OHP, etc...
1 lifting session for pulling-Cleans, rows, etc...
1 metcon workout with KB, this is really playtime.

Yoga most mornings to wake up.

No caffeine, no artificial sweeteners.
Morning I have a greens/fruit energy shake (kale, carrots, avocado, banana, blueberries, pineapple, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds, maca root)
Sometimes I have a trader joes bran muffin in here if I'm gonna do endurance stuff later
Lunch is usually something like quinoa, lentils, kale and pasta sauce
The other half of the drink
Evening is usually a protein type meal. I've been doing fish tacos with verde, lentils and avocado lately
Snack the rest of the time on fruit, nuts and carrots

****ing hippy shit, but it works. I can't describe what a night and day difference changing up my diet this way has made on my energy levels. Before I was dead in the AM before I had my morning Monster, then dead again after lunch, another Monster. Just about falling asleep on the couch by 9pm. Now I'm up in the morning ready to go at around 6-6:30am. Meals aren't heavy obviously and give energy instead of sapping it. I feel great.

I've also had 0 weight loss and 0 fat gain so far. Haven't tracked carbs, but they're obviously higher than before when I was doing a more protein based diet. I attribute this to the greater energy allowing for lots more cardio work. Berardi calls this g-flux but that's kind of too much term for just saying work more eat more.

Funny you mention that, at my last physical my doctor told me I should go somewhat vegan + light (I think) fish. He was telling me to stay away from higher protein diets, and that there is now evidence a diet void of meats/poultry/dairy is showing healthier hearts, etc... I don't know if I could ever learn enough about cooking to make it work though

What kind of yoga are you doing? This is something I need to pick up (flexibility is awful) but I've never had the time for classes or known where to start on my own.

Aweomse man!!!

Since I'm dating someone who is a workout-aholic (literally is parking spot #1 in the AM at the gym) I've decided to start working out in the mornings. This is week 3 for me, and I've been averaging 4 work outs a week. Going to bed at like 10:30, waking up at 545-600am, working out at 620, done by 730-740am. Making my own lunches, coffee in the AM, maybe 1 coffee in the afternoon; but all in all feeling better, more energy and even lose a few pounds.

I'm liking this program. It's nice to get out of work and not have to worry about 'working out'. I actually look forward to working out.

A lot of the idea for this diet comes from Brendan Brazier's "Thrive". Although he's a raw vegan and I'm not at all, I think the key concept is eating for energy and reducing the amount of strain you put your body with food. You can add whatever labels, political/religious/whatever you want on top of that, I choose not to and stick to eating for energy.

I started doing yoga years ago after reading about Eddie George doing it to avoid injuries in football. He's featured in the book "Real men do yoga". I learned the fundamentals from that and a few videos. I don't go to classes, that's not my thing.

Strap a go pro to your dome Yon and make sure you are at the back of the class.

^This.

Worked out at the Tulsa Fire Dept. today. Just exploring other options since my re-deployment is taking the longest it ever has.

In the pool today, this is my 2nd real swim in almost 10 years. Last time I could only make 50m without stopping, lol! I was reminded once again that swimming is a skill sport as much as a conditioning sport.

This time I did:

Warmup drills: Quick stroke/hand position, arm rotation/breathing
2x50m
1x100m
1x200m
2x50m
2x25m sprint

The 200m was just gonna be a 100m but my shoulders weren't tired, I was in a groove so I just kept going. Could have gone longer, I think next week I'll just see how far I can go. The eventual goal is to be able to do a nice steady 1500m.
