They alleviate a lot of pressure and definitely make certain lifts a lot easier to move up on by removing the need for a strong grip. When I used to do shrugs, I could go up over 600 with straps vs 400ish without. Then I figured one day my wrists were going to tear in half . I am afraid if I use them again I'll get spoiled and not stop haha!

Yep, you're using an aid to go beyond what you can really lift. Nothing wrong with that as long as its for a specific purpose, but if it's just for ego you might be in for some pain/injury down the road.
About my comment below though, I just meant he probably has the grip strength but the sweat and not using the right grip was holding him back.
Fwiw I did rack pull reps with 500+ in my prime and I was a small wristed 155 pounder. Straps are for when it gets REALLY heavy.

I used to use straps. They are great for what they are designed for. Problem is I eventually subscribed to "you're only as strong as your weakest link" as strebo has mentioned so I stopped.

When I was last training for an endurance event I was doing an 18 minute 3 mile, so roughly twice as fast as I just did, lol!
This was a trail run btw, not track or road. It's still slow though. I can go a lot faster on a mountain bike.

Stability circuit today, one leg dead lifts with 25lbs plate on an upside down bosu, pistol squats on the the TRX w/ row, blah blah
Ended with a 10 rep to 1 rep pyramid: Neutral grip dead hang pull ups, push ups, 30lbs kettle swings. 30 sec rest in between... For the 1 to 10 rep back up, did horizontal pull ups on the TRX, TRX push ups, then kettle. Wasn't bad at all, which surprised me. I expected to die.
