The Official TS Workout & Nutrition Thread

On the nutrition front, I just finished up reading Gary Taubes "Why we get fat and what to do about it" which turned out to be a so/so read. He did a bit of research into how we got to our current accepted recommendations about nutrition and some of the fallacies and politics involved. This I agree with, and his insistence that humanity is getting fatter as they have moved away from natural foods towards processed (and especially white flour and sugar).
Although he says total calories don't matter (which I completely disagree with), it is an interesting idea to keep protein at 25% of diet and make up caloric requirements mostly with fats and some leafy greens for nutrients, digestion, etc...
The cons are he is totally anti-carb and I know from experience that from an athlete's perspective this just cannot work. Even other paleo folks have moved away from this (Cordain and Friel) and added in pre/post workout carbs.
Also, he contradicts himself a bit. Talking up natural foods and then showing a recommended diet in the appendix with pepperoni, cheese and other processed foods listed.
In any case it's given me some ideas for use after the holidays, more on that experiment to come.

I've been addicted to Crossfit since I started a couple months ago. The nice thing about my local gym is that they're open on holidays, Thanksgiving, Xmas, NYE, New Years Day, etc...and they tend to come up with special workouts for those days. I love it!

but I went from benching 180x5 reps, to now 225x12 reps, and dead lifting 200x8 reps, to now 275x10 reps. So the strength aspect is def growing.

Starting back up with CrossFit again tomorrow. It's been since the end of november when I last worked out, so this week is going to suck. Had to stop CF due to school. I wasn't planning on starting until next week, but I figured the sooner I start the better. Aiming for 5 days this week to get going, then about 3 workouts a week once the semester starts since that's really all I can fit in. Should be fun
