Yes, Mail works very well with Gmail.

Also, I still use Transmission on my iMac and MBA...so I'm not sure why yours is no longer working. Try reinstalling it?

Mail setup with gmail is a 1 minute job (literally). Just make sure you've got IMAP enabled in gmail so your messages sync properly between the web interface and your mac and any other computers or devices you use it with.

As far as transmission, do you have the most updated version? It still works on my machine.
