Is the 991 (with decent spec) overpriced?

And YOU can easily afford either car ^^^ Your story highlights exactly what I'm talking about.
Percieved Value = win.

I think one of the reasons the 911 seems overpriced is because of just how practical of a car it is. Sometimes you have to think twice before you realize it can do the Nordschleife in well under 8 minutes.

Well put!

Russ, I'll let you make that leap. You can let me know how much you love it when you get it...

I do find it funny that we all praise those that spend anywhere from $5000 to $100K extra on aftermarket goodies but porsche offers just about everything you would need with factory warranty and we raise hell.

Granted I do think it is expensive. Overpriced depends on perceived value as stated before. Porsche conservatively states a 911 Carrera S will do 0-60 in 3.9 which automatically means 3.7. Last time I checked only 07 turbos could do that and they were more money. Also the lap times these cars are capable of are completely insane. This car outright humiliates the 997!

So basically you can spend the $ on luxury options or make your Carrera S a GT3 chaser with all the everyday comfort. Or of course which would be very expensive, both! I think they raised the bar big time personally once again. Just my .02 :-)

Exactly! And if you consider the new 911 is faster than many of its competitors, like the R8, V8 Vantage, Virage, and California to name a few, the 911 seems like the price is too good to be true! People should stop complaining and appreciate that automotive perfection only cost about 100K.

We seem to have got side tracked here. My points were:

1. All the performance related (and sports exhaust) options should be standard - you know the press cars will have all of them!
2. Options lose their value instantly on resale so depreciation on the 991 is going to be a b1tch!
3. 991 will still the best car dollar for dollar compared to other manufacturers. However, NOT compared to a low mileage 997 it won't be! 991 C2S vs 997 GT2 is a landslide for the GT2. If you don't want something as raw then 997.2 Turbo or S will still be a far better driving experience at a fraction the cost!

Saying all that - a 2 year old 991 will be a total bargain at 50% it's original value! Just make sure the sucka you buy it from spec'ed all the essential (now free to you) options

A 2 year old 997 doesn't drop 50% in 2 years so where are you basing your numbers? Mars?

1st, you take your largest hit in your 1st year- no matter the make or model. 2ndly, you didn't pay close to sticker for the car considering when the 09's came out (AKA economy crash) -

so the net difference to any 2009 911 owner isn't close to being represented here. Porsche had $15k cash back back in those days....

No pity here.
