Team Speed Music Monday: Khalid’s ‘Better’ Features Fleet of Bimmers
R&B singer-songwriter shows his love for BMW in video where the headliner is a formation of E36 M3s.
Welcome Team Speed Music Monday, where we feature music videos from our jukebox where the cars steal the spotlight from the stars.
Not too long ago, we learned that BMW was planning a road trip to Coachella. Selected influencers and VIPs would drive along with Khalid, the Grammy-nominated, El Paso, Texas R&B singer-songwriter in a fleet of custom-wrapped i3s and i8s to the two-weekend celebration of social media and music.
Thus, it’s only fitting we take a closer look at one of his more recent videos, “Better,” from his 2018 EP Suncity. mainly because the big star here is the E36-era BMW M3.
“I love BMWs,” Khalid told Billboard in early April of 2019. “I lived in Germany for six years, and my mom had a green 2008 3 Series. I wanted to drive that car so bad growing up. Until I was able to make the source of income, then I got my own and my first BMW.”
His first BMW wasn’t the yellow E36 M3 at the start of the video, but a white 4 Series convertible with black wheels. His second was a dark blue M6, and he has his eyes on an i8.
“Love to see you shine in the night like the diamond you are,” croons Khalid, which applies to both the woman walking into the night from the “Young Dumb & Broke” singer, and the cool BMW. The yellow M3 appears to have a mind of its own, spinning donuts around him. It even drives itself with Khalid on the hood at one point.
The yellow M3 is soon joined by a fleet of M3s of all colors. They all buzz by and spin around Khalid while he continues to do his thing amid the chaotic dance of German high-performance vehicles.
“If I could, I would own every single BMW because I love them all,” Khalid told Billboard. “It upsets me that I don’t have the funds to afford them yet. The fact that I get to partner with BMW on something that I grew up with, a car that I love, it felt like I was floating on the water. It’s literally my 15-year-old boy’s dream come true.”
“Better” and the rest of Suncity can be had via Apple Music, Google Play, and your favorite streaming service. But to get your M3 fix, check out the video.
