New Watch Ideas

The guy asked for recommendations about a watch, not a financial wearwithall beatdown...
I am going to say go for the panerai that you want. They hold value pretty well, not many have any idea what they cost, they look awesome, and there is a tight community among those who have them...and yes, you can make conversation with people you never normally would just because you are wearing similar watches...I know thats the case with My Pan 212 and the ROO.
Just my .02

I'd say for future posts to avoid the hassle don't post your age...i dont think anyone cares and ambiguous comments that you dont want to discuss are meaningless therefore unnecessary.
But nice problem to have at 18, I'm trying to remember if i even wore a watch at 18??? if I did it was a $50 swatch.
Good luck with your search

A lot of great ideas now in this thread. I am leaning towards the Sub right now but have a few questions.
1. What is the main difference between the Sub and the GMT?
2. How do you guys feel about a Panerai?

The Submariner outer dial is based on 1hr, as it is a diving watch, to keep track of time under water. The GMT outer dial is based on a 24h scale, to keep track of a second time zone, and of course has the extra hand to do so. In reality, most people with the Sub don't dive and most with the GMT don't really need a second time zone, it mostly comes down to look preference with the different bezels and faces, IMO.
In regards to the Panerai, they are great, but not quite the all-around watch that a Rolex is. If it is going to be your main watch, I'd say Rolex. If you have something durable to rotate with, Panerai.

I love that black strap. However, my local rolex dealer told me that you could not switch straps on the submariner it either had to be ordered with the strap or with the bracelet. Is that true?
