Ride a horse.

Actually, if you're worried about residuals, DO NOT buy a new car. Simple as that. Get a Z06.

The posers who run around in early SRT-10s on the original Pilot Sport run-flats are middle aged and bald.

The guys who trailer them in on slicks are not to be trifled with. The Viper is a very amazing track weapon in the right hands. They're also entirely bomb proof.

So far as the Mustang goes, the new GTs are probably the best bang for the buck out there right now. They still need a few bucks put into them to be anywhere near track competent, but with coilovers and brakes they'll cheese off a lot of Z06/996/M3/whatever drivers.

I've got thousands of track miles on mine, on a bone stock bottom end and heads, making twice its original power. Not one single thing has ever broken.

Spec'd one out last night just for the hell of it, Fully Loaded GT Premium... Came out to 44k - Not too bad, but alot of other options in that price range.

I specced one out with everything I wanted and it was $42.5K.

Not 'that' many options at that price for something with a warranty.

996 Porsche easily, 'maybe' a cheap Turbo.
Some Z06's but not many.

Erm, what else?

School me on American car choices, I only know European cars really.

In terms of American Cars... I would go with the Mustang. But you can get USED cars that are Certified Pre Owned with longer warranty than a new car, and save a few bucks...

Get the Mustang 5.0

Bulletproof performance and a full warranty. With any sports car I would be leery of PO's so a new car makes a lot of sense.

And a quick comment about the Vipers---check the insurance rates, the front clamshell is NOT cheap to replace if in an accident, very similar issue that the Lotus Elise has.

I would have gotten the Mustang instead of my Evo had the 5.0 been out last winter.

You can have a 997 at auction for under 40k, and as far as I know they're pretty bullet proof. If not just get the Z06, hard to believe you could have more fun for the money. Mustang is just a boring car to own even though the new one is a great package.
