No matter how hard I try, I can't fall in love with this car. I'm sure it'll have the best driving dynamics of any production road car since the Carrera GT or a Lotus Exige, but it'll really take a lot for the looks to grow on me. I'm sure it'll be fast with that turbocharged V8 but I really wish it had either a super low displacement, high revving N/A V12 or at least a medium size N/A V8. The chassis is sure to be brilliant as well, combining both lightness and rigidity in a class that has never seen a CF monocoque before. It even has a thoroughbred racing heritage that spans nearly 50 years. It has all of the right ingredients to be a really terrific car but to me, it's missing the two things that makes a McLaren, a McLaren: heart and soul.

Don't feel bad. Visually I am not in love with it either. It's a bit too safe, a bit too "I was designed in the wind tunnel", a bit too derivative of so many other cars out there. In the end though, it will probably be a fantastic car to drive and so as a general rule I can overlook the fact that the design isn't exactly the most appealing I have ever seen. Reading through the press release does give the impression that this car will deliver on its promises.
Hopefully it sells and does well so that future offerings from McLaren have a chance at life. Maybe the next one or the one after will be fantastic in every way.

Perfectly described. Not ugly, just meh, totally uninspired.
