McLaren MP4-12C Officially Revealed!

IIRC, the car won't be delivered to customers until 2011, so I would guess it will be a fairly long while.

Ah ok, that's too bad. I think it's a weird strategy to reveal this car so close to the IAA if they're not gonna show it off there since all the other car manufacturers are showing off all their new cars now as well. If they had done it 2 weeks after the IAA it would have gotten even more attention and wouldn't have to compete with the Merc SLS and Reventon Roadster for attention.

Depends largely on the design of both engines in question, but-- generally not. Turbochargers, intercoolers and related plumbing generally weigh quite a bit, certainly enough to make up near as makes no difference the weight between a smallish V8 and a bigish V12.
Regardless, the car's a tank by McLaren standards. They most certainly went with the V8 for cost/emissions reasons.

Apparently people on FChat hate it as well...

In part the MP4-12C's extraordinary performance comes from light weight, as it's some 2,866 pounds dry and about 3,000 pounds sitting at the curb with a full tank of fuel. Just as with a racing car, the weight is biased toward the rear, with a distribution of 43 percent front/57 percent rear.
