Yeah, Erik definitely takes the cake here for being the biggest F1 fan on this board, followed by hurstg01. I might come in a close 3rd though...

That is what I was thinking. If McLaren will be able to make a convertible without adding weight and losing stiffness of the construction it will be great and have all the chances to be one of the greatest convertible supercars ever. But if not, it will be a fail.

Speaking about F1 successor, I really doubt that it is great idea to present this upcoming car as a successor to the F1, that would set a benchmark too high and many will criticize it even if it will be brilliant. With all modern safety issues and other stuff it is hard to produce a very light car with a power-to-weight ratio that would beat competitors in a moment. I even heard that due to the market expansion new Pagani C9 will weight more than Zonda F, new twin-turbo V12 engine will have more weight and all safety stuff as well.

Forgot to add an update:

Had a call from McLaren about 2 weeks ago. They are not taking deposits and are just calling interested potential customers to have a courtesy chat. I requested a factory tour and to deal with the factory directly and she said nearer the time that will be a possibility. They mentioned they would be in touch. I know a couple of other guys that had similar calls over here.
