Ah, so a single snickers bar instead of a steak/sweet potato/salad dinner is recommended for optimal weight loss?
Your point is taken though, and portion control/calorie reduction is ok for a fatty losing weight. At some point health and to a lesser extent body composition and performance will become important.

I just did my first real run in the Vibrams and I love them. They so light and the running form just makes you want to go FAST. Like Ricky Bobby. And although it was only 0.6 miles my calves feel like I just did several sets of heavy calf raises at the gym.

SoCals' workout suggestions have yielded great results during this three weeks offshore in that I've lost fifteen pounds. Part of this though is due to the fact that I have to avoid the majority of the food served out here.
I'm so ready to get back home and spend an hour of my day staring at the well shaped back sides of the predominantly female contingent in my yoga class.

Fortunately for me my eating habits are good. We have always had a balanced diet without a lot of crap. Cutting out the sugars really helps a ton.
Exactly just a balanced diet.

You guys are both correct that all you need is a caloric deficit for weight loss, see the twinkie diet below.
Twinkie diet helps nutrition professor lose 27 pounds - CNN.com
Now, have him continue it out for 5 years vs. someone using the "fancy" diets (if steak, brown rice and asparagus for example are fancy) from the authors above. Do bloodwork and measure BF levels. I'm not a scientist, but I bet we can all guess the outcome. If long term health is the primary goal, at some point you have to eat right rather than just eat less. That's all I'm saying.
With that out of the way, here is what I've been eating before workouts the last 3 days. So good, and healthy.
3/4 cup old fashioned oatmeal
1 scoop vanilla protein powder
3/4 cup eggs whites (egg whites in a carton, not cracking a bunch of eggs)
1 whole egg
4 tiny scoops of stevia (adds a little sweetness)
A few dashes of cinnamon
1/2 chopped apple
Throw it all (except the apple) in a blender till its batter consistency. Cook in a medium sized pan with olive oil spray, add the chopped apple, it'll give it a little crunch. Should make 3 large pancakes. Enjoy.
