CGT Design Flaw??
#51
Porsche obviously didn't have the proper 7GT2/3 TC/PSM up and working properly when the CGT was signed off otherwise they WOULD have fitted it along with the TC - All the plaudits from Porsche about the GT2/3 TC/PSM and the way they work in these quasi track cars would surely apply to the CGT.....
Not sure if those berating the 7GT2/3 TC/PSM have actually used it ? It is an amazing bit of kit allowing really fun driving, good slip angles , very unobtrusive and when you are in the right environment can simply be switched off - its a no brainer if it were around when the CGT was signed off.

If this is inside info, many would really like to know your source.
#53
No its not "inside info", just following the logic of earlier posts and my opinion having sampled all the things we are discussing....

IMO it's one of those cars that you have to respect, and know how to drive and thats it. Perhaps going to Skip Barber or something of the sort before purchasing one would be wise, and then not going beyond your limits.
I would like to hear DangerZone's opinion on this. He had a CGT as well, didn't he?

If Porsche meant it to be the pure racer, why bother with even TC ? Surely just a decent LSD would have followed this "purist" route ? TC is for pussies ?

If people do not feel able to do this without the safety net of PSM/PASM etc then I suspect the Carrera GT is not the car for them.

The fact is simple, if someone with a reasonable level of ability and common sense drives within their capabilities the CGT it no bother to drive swiftly come rain or shine, on street or track.

The 997GT2 using TC/PSM managed to get within 1 sec of the CGT (on the ring) despite having 80hp less and being based on a design from 1998 (996) vs a clean sheet quasi racer designed from scratch !!!

Of course what you say makes perfect sense but it is not whether people "feel able" to drive "within their capabilities" without the TC/PSM safety net it is that the car needs these systems to look after the drivers in certain circumstances - All drivers get caught out sometimes, wet road, dodgy cambers, little too much throttle, you are off in a CGT, driving god or not !

As I said before, if people don't feel confident in either their ability or prudence for previaling conditions, they are potentially going to struggle with the TC fitted to the CGT.
As for quoting 'ring time, how do you know this time for the 997GT2 was acheived with the PSM on?
And of course the Pilot Sport Cups vs. Pilot Sport make no difference?
But we're getting off topic, you stated the CGT had a 'design flaw' because it's handling requires concentration, effort and skill.
People stating the CGT has a 'design flaw' because they can't master it say's more about them than the car.
What's the old adage about a good workman never blaming his tools :-)

) can turn the TC/PSM off and do all the mastering they want but for others the systems are there to look after them - just like on the GT2/3mmmm, watching F1 interviews, drivers never critisize their cars set ups do they ?

But the PSM would go a long way to protecting said people...
Fair point - I don't
True
No I said the flaw is that Porsche should have put the PSM on it to make it a safer car, like it did to subsequent quasi racers
Like I said before, driving gods (as you appear to think you are - testing fate there mate, be careful out there

Nope, not suggesting for one nano-second I'm anything more that a seasoned amateur, just always drive within my limitations. The CGT makes me all too aware of those limitations!
However the point I'm trying to make, is it's quite possible for the CGT to be driven in a spirited fashion without it spitting you off the road.
To claim it's got some form of 'design flaw' because it takes some effort to extract anywhere near the best of it does'nt stack up for me

I've got a friend who's had his CGT for almost 3 years and is moving it on for just the reason's you outlined however so I know another perspective exists!
I just relish every opportunity of a long day behind the wheel, I know I will get out drained and exhilarated, knowing the car will always be better than me but savouring every moment
none the less. There's nothing else I've driven that comes close to that feeling, I guess that's why I have so much admiration and respect for the CGT.

After your post before (not the one I have quoted but the one before) I just drove back from work on mega wet roads and turned the SC off for the journey..... well all I can say is one has to be very careful and TBH it takes a lot of fun out of "making progress", give me the GT2/3 SC any day, it just makes a powerful car even more fun........
