CGT Design Flaw??

I feel compelled to bring this subject up since up here in the Pacific NW, we've lost 3 CGTs in the last 2 months or so. This subject has been brought up and debated in the not so distant past with some highly publicized tragedies. In light of whats happened up here recently, I'd like to get some owners perspective so that we can provide a database of information and continue to remind each other and anyone else contemplating a CGT purchase in the future just what kind of responsibility is required to get behind the wheel of one of the most remarkable road going Porsches in history.

Here is the most recent loss......

Holy sh*t. I would have the guy that "jumped into the road" killed. Half joking.

I have read in so many places that these are hard cars to drive and demand the most respect. This just confirms that. Obviously I can't comment about a design flaw.

Please drive yours carefully.

3 down in our area in just the last few months, that is ridiculous. Do you know how many are up here? I was going to guess > 8-10.

Wow, that's very unfortunate. For those of us who are not members over there can someone post pictures/stories as a lesson to those wanting to push these cars beyond their skill set?

"The Porsche Carrera GT has been involved in at least 38 accidents since production began in 2004. Porsche had originally planned to produce 1,500 Carrera GTs, but they discontinued the model in 2006 after producing only 1,270, citing new airbag regulations. Porsche recently paid a settlement of $4.5 million to the family of a man killed in a Porsche Carrera GT accident. The lawsuit claimed the Carrera GT was not a safe car at high speeds. "

According to Barrier Motors up here in Bellevue, WA.........there are between 7-9 CGTs at any one time in the PNW. The 3 most recent losses are one at Pacific Raceways. Another in Portland, and the most recent that I posted the thread to on Fchat. The owner of that one claims a malfunction in TC, or lack thereof and that Porsche did nothing to address his concerns when he brought it to their attention. I'm hoping with revisiting this subject that we can prevent more owners or prospective owners from having this same fate.

Two things to avoid in life.

Never answer the question: 'Does this make me look fat?'

Never abruptly lift off a CGT. It gathers itself so quickly and gets out of shape in the wink of an eye.

Jon - I believe the case you cite was during a Ferrari event at a track in CA. The owner was driving a friend around the lap because he was interested in a CGT to replace his Murci. Ended up in a wall when a 550 was called onto the track in front of it. I forget the owners name, but there was a huge meet in his honor. Ben Keaton something?

Yes, RIP. He was a very active member on many boards and used his CGT as a DD. Nice guy.
