If you can swing a 997.1, do it. That's the best solution - just wasn't one of the initial options.

only smaller mid engine car i have significant experience with is an exige. have plenty of seat time in an NSX as well but i believe thats not really in the same category. i would imagine a cayman would be much more refined than the lotus.

i can appreciate the desire to have a small mid engine sports car, they are very attractive for a myriad of reasons. i just personally would have a hard time justifying a cayman r when i could get a mint 997.1 GT3 for the same coin.

In the case of the Cayman R, I wanted to do a custom-order, factory delivered car. I had an INCREDIBLE spec in mind. The "problems" with buying a used GT3 are A) I don't know how hard (and how poorly) the previous owner drove it, and B) it would be unlikely to find one in the color/options I would want. Ideally, I'd score a used 2010 GT3 in a paint to sample Mexico/Gulf Blue with Sport Buckets and xenons - find me one of those and it's a done deal.

makes sense, you have a very specific spec in mind. keep your eyes peeled, it may fall in your lap. im much more lax on color/options, i had some seat time in an arctic 7.1 GT3 that i fell in love with.

these cars may be a disease but man i wouldn't have it any other way.

For the money I'd rather a MkIGT3 997 versus a CS- however if $$ is a major contributor- try out a MkI997S coupe. Tons of win there.
