HELP! How do I restore my iMac??

Let me start with ARRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHH!

I just setup my new iMac a few days ago. Saved a handful of new pics and documents on it before I took it to the Apple Store to have my old PC files transferred over.
This went fine.

Bought a Firewire cable to transfer over my Macbook files myself. Used Migration Assistant. I thought this would only add the new files to my iMac. Instead, everything was OVERWRITTEN, including software, documents, pics. Now everything I had transferred over from my PC is gone and I'm left with a carbon copy of my Macbook. WTF?!?!?!

I was using Time Machine to make backups of my iMac before this all happened, so naturally I thought I could just restore everything prior to this fiasco. Nothing. Won't let me do it.

Help! before I go ballistic and throw this thing out the window!!!!

ok, disregard above. Finally got Time Machine to work by rebooting through the OS X install disk.

But now I once again attempted to transfer over pictures/documents from the Macbook to the iMac (did not select applications/settings in Migration Assistant in fear it would overwrite everything and revert to the old OS like last time).

Process completed but nothing was moved over?? None of my pics/documents were transferred over?? What am I missing here?

I don't know what to tell you, but if Simba doesn't see this thread soon, I'd PM him and explain what's going on and see if he knows what to do

Simba is not gonna answer. He's a gonna.

I would just manually move over your pics and docs from your Macbook and don't rely on Time Machine for automaticness. In this regard.

Well, that blows. I'm not utilizing time machine. What I didn't know was that migration assistant just creates an entirely separate account on the receiving computer. Didn't know I had to log out of one and log in to another to access the information. Stupid (the process, not me)
