So i just had a look and noticed i am running:

System Version: Mac OS X 10.5.8 (9L31a)
Kernel Version: Darwin 9.8.0

Can i upgrade directly to the new shiz, or do i have to dl each version released since?

What's the version i need to go for?

TIA.

You're running Leopard. You'd need to upgrade to Snow Leopard, then to Lion assuming the machine is intel.

Ya it's intel. I tried loading the snow leopard but it said time machine was on the disk and it had a yellow triangle...

Do you happen to have a time machine drive? If so, unmount it when doing the install or you run the risk of simply selecting the wrong drive.

Other things to be sure of: check to make sure you've got enough free hard drive space and enough RAM for snow leopard (at least 5gb free space and 1GB of RAM).

Select the system drive for the upgrade. When doing a major upgrade, it's a good idea to remove all external drives and media.
