wise lion:

My iMac is about a year old and the only updates I've ever ran were the ones suggested by the automatic update feature. Is there anything else I should be doing, or do I just wait for the system to prompt me and only run those?

Just use software update for normal stuff. If there's a major update (like 10.5.5 to 10.5.6), download the combo updater and run that instead.

simba, any harm in running the combo updater after you've installed the updates using the software updater?

I ran the combo updater on my Macbook Air. All went well.
