I think a 7th gear is great! Perfect for long driving! If you don't like the 7th gear, don't use it? I rather have 7 gears than 5 or 6. It's nice to know that you have one more gear to put in when the noise while cruising is to great..
The S/S system is different story though.. I don't like being slow when the red light turns green
