[VIDEO] 991: 7-Speed Manual/PDK tricks + start-stop function

I think the features should have come as options.. honestly, I don't see anyone benefiting from the 7th gear or the stop-start function in small countries with cheap gas, short roads and short waiting times..
I also think the 7th gear has a novelty feel to it.. and the stop-start function will always have me wondering if the car will start again

Guys complaing about start/stop,
Have you personally used it in a Cayenne or Panamera?
It's fuel related so it won't be an option.
Remember the "pink pig"?and I'm not talking about the 917.
That's why this is happening.

Tried it on the Panamera.. thought it was pointless as well.. in real life numbers, how much fuel are you saving? how fuel is spent in total while the car is idling? maybe some numbers will help convince me on the usefulness of this feature

I agree 100%. In many countries cars are regularly cruising at 80mph now, and I have been in many, many cars on the highway and wished i had an extra tall overdrive ratio, not only for noise but yes for fuel economy also. In most high torque, large displacement cars (such as American V8s), the 6th gear was the answer (this is how a Vette can get 23-25mpg on the highway). But in cars with smaller engines, with somewhat narrower powerbands, the 6th ratio is used for meaningful accel and liimts its use as an overdrive. A 7th ratio for overdrive in a manual trans is BRILLIANT!
I have driven a ton of cars requiring another gear, but I have yet to drive one that has one too many. Cannot wait to try this. And as little as I care about the eco-hippie agenda and average CO2 emissions, what I do care about is range and highway noise.
In fact, I am curious why there are any negative reactions to this - unlike the flappy paddle garbage which jams its idiotic way of operating down your throat, you can still decide for yourself whether you want to use the 7th manual gear or not.
