R.I.P. The Porsche 911. 1963-2012

I just saw in another thread that this GT3 RS LE we're hearing about will be the last 911 ever with a flat-6. They said they talked to someone who drove the next generation 911 in Germany, and it had a 4.0 V8 with no rear seats. They said it was some sort of emissions thing, but how is a V8 more efficient than a flat-6? Why don't they put the engine in the middle or front while they're at it? To me ditching the flat-6 is horrible news. Almost like the death of the 911. Don't forget that luxurious interior either! The 911 is turning into a luxury GT car. Hopefully a flat-6 conversion will be possible. I really hope this isn't true. I would forgive Porsche if they used a flat-8 engine, but a V8 is just stupid. I hope Porsche sees this thread and changes their mind, but I also hope it's not true at all. Vote in the pole what you think.

Here's a video with some good sound clips of the 991 testing. I still can't tell if that's a V8 though.

Can't really tell from the videos, but the exhaust note sounds very much like a flat-6 to me. I think it's a bit premature to be saying "RIP 911".

Yeah its hard to tell but my impression was that it sounded like a Flat6 rather then a V8.

Dude simma down... you are a bit dramatic with how you choose, the evolution (death), plus the first option doesn't even make sense. Don't worry, they aren't going to change the 914 you want.

It is what it is. V8 or Flat 6 when and if it happens once people drive them they will love them. I remember when Porsche 1st said they were doing an SUV, everyone laughed and said it would be a bust, blah blah, etc. Look at the Cayenne and what it has done to every Porsche enthusiast. Same goes to the air cooled over water cooled, don't get me wrong, I love the air cooled turbo do to its rawnest, however I love my 997TT to.

If it happens my money is on people pissing themselves over the performance, besides, thats why they are talking about it

I doubt this would happen, but my crystal ball has been foggy lately.

A bigger engine with no back seats? Maybe for a GT variant, but I doubt the base carrera would have this configuration.
