Meh. I'd welcome a flat-8. The engine will make more power while being less stressed, thus providing better fuel economy OR a better base for tuning.

An F8 would be cool. Not a V8...

There is no way Porsche ever will put a V8 in a 911. And I seriously doubt they exchange the Flat-6 for a Flat-8.

If there comes a time when a Flat-6 just isn't good enough they do best in just kill of the 911 brand and start over.

revolution would only move the engine farther forward. I don't use rear seats in my 911's so I don't care if they are pushed aside for a more mid-engine type platform. That I think would be the only evolution a 911 needs.

The source did guarantee that the 997 will be the last flat-6 911. As much as I hope that isn't true, unfortunately the source is very reliable.

The clock just started ticking for the end of a legend.

I truly hope I can look back on this thread and laugh about how stupid I'm being, but I don't think I'll be laughing.

Sounds like a flat six to me... But, in addition to the other factors mentioned that affect sound, my bet is that if it's a V8 it'll have a flat plane crank so it probably won't have a throatly/burbly sound to it anyway.

The next 911 is a V8...

I hear it's to stay competitive in motorsports.

As long as it doesn't sound like a conventional V8, I'll be happy.
