R.I.P. The Porsche 911. 1963-2012

Maybe Porsche will make the standard models a flat-6, and the S models will get a V8? I don't know. I know I should relax, but the flat-6 is my favorite engine configuration ever. It's also the best sounding (particularly the 500hp Brumos Porsche flat-6).

That Porsche could very well have a flat six in it. But the compression could be different, the metal used for the block and head could be different, the exhaust material could be different, and it could be configured different.
All of that makes a very big difference in sound.
Say it's aluminum block, iron heads, forged pistons, forged rods, 264 duration cams, 13:1 compression, stainless steel headers, 3" outer diameter exhaust, no cats, and titanium tips. It will have a unique exhaust note.
Change the heads from iron to aluminum and the block from aluminum to iron, it will be a DRASTIC change in exhaust sound.
Not to mention, people were having this conversation when Porsche announced they were switching from air cooled motors to flat six motors.
And remember, Porsche said they were dropping the GT1 style motor.

Another thing I like about the Ruf V8 is that its 4.5L and I believe (I'm not positive though) 90lbs lighter than the Porsche flat 6. That weight savings is enormous in the place it matters most...
