R.I.P. The Porsche 911. 1963-2012

The source did guarantee that the 997 will be the last flat-6 911. As much as I hope that isn't true, unfortunately the source is very reliable.
The clock just started ticking for the end of a legend.
I truly hope I can look back on this thread and laugh about how stupid I'm being, but I don't think I'll be laughing.

More info: The next 911 will have 8 cylinders' and that's almost a 100 percent fact. The test mules we see have 8 cylinders. What we don't know is what kind of 8 cylinder it is. Judging by the sound I'm guessing it's a flat-8. A flat-8 is a good thing though. Two more cylinders won't hurt. A new configuration will
I was specifically told not to give up the source. All I'll say is the source is a very successful racing driver. I wouldn't doubt him at all. Exactly what he said, and these aren't even direct quotes: "The GT3 RS LE will be the last 6 cylinder 911. The new 911 will get an 8 Cylinder engine. I've already driven it in Germany, and it also had no rear seats". Most of that is fact. There are 8 cylinder 911 prototypes. Whether it's a V8 or flat-8 is unknown. It is also unknown whether Porsche was just testing an 8 cylinder, or if that is the route they're going.
And h20skier, I agree. It doesn't make sense...

^^ The racing driver did also say that they would switch to an 8 cylinder for emission reasons. It makes no sense. The only thing I could possibly think of is the engine wouldn't have to work as hard, but it still doesn't really make sense. I do however think I'd be okay if Porsche introduced a flat-8.

Ummm.. the 991 type 911 has been out for sometime and it's a flat-6.
And going by recent press-conferences, this model should be around for quite sometime albeit with a few tweaks in the middle.
EDIT: I'm guessing you know this though.

No, those test cars had rotary engines. And they were AIR COOLED. My source told me so. And he's very reliable.
Oh wait, my source might have been Carrera....oops.

What a thread revival, and boy do I feel like and idiot now. I don't know what I was thinking, apologies now. But as for the bold thread title I don't apologize there. Like Ray Wert on Jalopnik said exaggerated headlines shall always remain, and thrown "Naziss!" in there when you want more views.
A member on here who's no longer active said he knew Hurley Haywood, who said he drove a V8 991 in Germany. I guess now we know that story is either total BS, or they were just screwing around with engines.
