The Gentleman's Thread: Buying Your Wife Stuff
#21
ktvegas, wow tamsen z is crazy
first time i know of them and i love some of the rings, very elegant mix of stones.how can i know more about pricing?
everything else looks good but imo is over the top for my wife's style (and my preference).
ippolita was working fine but now i am getting errors when i browse.
thanks for the input, i'll need your help in a few days when i go looking for bags and come back to help decide

I'd be glad to help with bags, but as you said..they are very personal and not easy to pick out for others.
Good luck, you're a good man!

Assumed. I guess these days you can never go wrong with a bag or something with diamonds.

here is what i am looking at
van cleef & arpels:
alhambra tiger ring (iirc from the catalogue 7g yg, 0.6c)
alhambra tiger earrings, prefer the single motif but the dangling 2 motif can be good for future additions?
the butterfly necklace is especially nice, but i already got her a vca necklace and think this would be not so/as useful
edit: i am definitely set on the ring, wish to find more variations (prefer to have it in tiger alhambra to go with the necklace)
not so sure about the earrings yet

i got her the same clutch bag as the 1st pic attached a while ago but in a different colour judging by the hue online (hers looks more greenish).i want to go with something larger, since i'm thinking of if we went out with the baby, thus definitely with a strap this time. so i'm thinking about one of the two attached, the blue is just a colour i digged and i am not necessarily stuck to it (or any other colour) but am leaning towards the pear-shaped (?) more than the rectangular on counts of not just volume but design as well. not sure if they are available at the local boutique though.
there's no particular reason why i feel inclined to stick with bvlgari, except for they're the first ones i spent time looking at in real, and found that i prefer them to the more "classic" stuff.
i can understand chanel's appeal, but to me their signature bags are pretty 'lazy' more than classic and as such i as a man am not sure why they cost that much when they're not as practical nor interesting
although i saw a few "happy" colours, but iirc they were mostly small-sizes. and in kuwait i must make the decision right on the spot because they sell like hot cakes
something else i have come to know about myself when it comes to bag-shop for her is that i never like anything in black. feels a bit depressing really.that said, i browsed LV's site and concluded that i dislike the "Monogram canvas" and much prefer the "Damier Ebene" for that color tone, but i think i am sold on the "Damier Azur" as this canvas, so it's the 1st thing i'll look at when i go to their boutique in kuwait

let me recollect and refine some questions to see if you can help:
1. is bvlgari a wise choice still? or is sticking to the chanel/lv type more sensible? i saw dior and other brands but their stuff is a bit too glossy (?) or over the top from the little i've seen
2. should i definitely forget the question above and go with my instincts solely on design?

i like it in the pic but this is the design which i was referring to that i wish to steer away from where it is all-diamond. i think i want to get something more design-oriented than stone?

nonetheless, great choice bro!
i told vca to give me a call once it arrives and put it on hold for me to inspect and see what earrings he would have for me to combine with.i think a ring, earrings, and a bag will make a nice trio

thanks man!
i am struggling on finalizing a list to go see in real and deciding on what to get because the occasions are back-to-back

what do you make of "designer" jewellery? for example, the van cleef & arpels ring i showed above retails for around $3.1k, and i think it's a good deal given not only the design, but also the peace of mind and the fact that they picked the stones for me. but is it really a good price?
same goes for shopping at cartier, piaget, and the sort.
how much are we really paying extra just for the brand?
over here, there are a lot of well-known jewellers, but i am not a fan of their setting nor their rings. they do seem to me, as a man, to be 2nd rate

"paying for the name" Some choose to and thats fine, but if there is ever an area thats pretty much a level playing field, its jewelry, or I would not be able to exist as a business. I even clients who have posted in this thread that have decided not to pay for the name

My personal opinion is going to come into play heavily here, but your taste and your wife's may be completely different. I am a huge fan of Chanel, so that would be my absolute top pick. I hear what you're saying about black but keep in mind women (myself and most I know) don't think of black as depressing. It's exotic, neutral, classic, and you can never have too much!
That being said, there is nothing wrong with color, or lack of as in the Damier Azur. That is a lovely bag, keep in mind there are 3 sizes. If she will be using it as a diaper bag as well, get the GM size, it is the largest. Unless she is very petite, it shouldn't overwhelm. LV's Mahina bags are nice as well, full leather and softer to the touch. They have a gorgeous Marine blue (Stellar GM) if you are leaning towards that color.
I agree with you about Dior, never been a fan. I'm not partial to the Bvlgari, but again..just a personal opinion.
I think it's great you are putting so much thought into it. I am sure she will love whatever you choose. Keep us updated!
