Optics for a S&W model 586

Yeah...you read that right.

I've got an uncle (good ole boy from Georgia that I love to death) that has decided he's bagged a deer with every other weapon he's got (rifle, muzzle loader, bow, etc.) that he's decided the next one will be with his revolver.

So, the question posed to me was: What optics and necessary mounts would he need to put a 6x scope on his S&W model 586 .357 magnum. He has the 6" barrel. I did some quick digging online and found some weaver type setups that bolt on to where the rear sight mounts, but that's about it and I didn't even get started on optics yet.

Ideas?

6x is a bit much on a handgun. I'd suggest 4x - Leupold makes some good EER scopes specifically for handguns. They should also have the proper mounts too...

Thanks Chris! I mentioned 6x would be much, but that's the magnification he's shooting with on everything else so he wanted to stay consistent.

He's hunting deer w/ a handgun for pete's sake.... I didn't argue with him much.
