Pagani Huayra Top Gear (Spoiler Alert)

I believe that all legal road tires need to be E Marked, have speed rating, etc.. to be legal in the EU.
This is a good document from Ireland admittedly but am sure it is pretty much the same for the whole of the UK if not Europe.

But before we all condemn Pagani as being the scum of the earth lets get a little perspective. As a company they have been producing cars for 14 years now. Thought out that time I have never seen or read a test on a Pagani car that has not sung its praises from the rooftops. How many other manufactures can say that? Even the mighty McLaren have had their detractors as you well know Erik.
The Huayra has already won numerous awards with only recently Jason Plato calling it the best car on the planet and Chris Harris, probably the most respected car reviewer out there describing it as "The definitive Hypercar" He loved it
Did Pagani get carried away by all this great PR? Maybe. The chance to put that final cherry on top of the cake with a TG record lap time may have been too good to pass up, so they bent the rules. Do they regret it now? I sure as hell bet they do.
But let’s not condemn all the great work that has gone before. The fact that Pagani has achieved so much where so many have failed in the past and are very likely to fail in the future has to be applauded.
Let’s not forget what they have done is nothing new, Ferrari's recent record is well documented, Lamborghini lied for years about how fast their cars were as did Jaguar and many others. Strangely I don’t remember any of these past miscreants apologising for what they had done.
Should TG retest the car, I think they should? I still feel that it will be top of the board but just by a lot smaller margin.
The P1 at some point this year will post a time on the TG track. I fully expect it to be fastest. But let’s not forget it will be running on a totally bespoke set of tyres developed in tandem with the car. Some may say well that’s not fair because no one else will have access to that technology. Is that cheating? I don’t think so; they are just playing the same game

Ummm, no one is doing that.
I didn't burn my copy of 'Story of a Dream' last night, but I am still hugely disappointed that Pagani thought they needed to cheat, felt they could get away with it, and then when confronted with the evidence have chosen to obfuscate the issue even further with what seem almost sure to be a blatant lie instead of simply coming clean.
Lots of high end cars developed with tires specific to the car - this is a common practice across the board with performance cars.
The Ferrari Enzo used the Bridgestone Potenza RE050A Scuderia developed specifically for it. The Ferrari F50 was fitted with the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-Fiorano developed specifically for it. The Michelin Pilot Sports on the Carrera GT had a rubber compound developed specifically for it. Goodyear launched its Eagle F1 tire with a specific version for the McLaren F1 and later Bridgestone made a version of the Pilot Sport called the 'SX FZ' that is specific to the F1. Those are just a few examples off the top of my head. There are also OE tires for many lesser cars as well - explained in brief here.
These are all road legal tires tires though, and the same will be true of what is fitted to the P1. Safe bet the 918 and Enzo replacement will also sport rubber that is specific to them as well.
Pagani didn't play by the rules here and frankly are deserving of all of this criticism now. The sad part is the Huayra might still have recorded the fastest time (as you suggested) without these cheater slicks, but now we'll likely never know. So far I have not found any comment from Top Gear on their thoughts surrounding this story. It will be most interesting to hear what they say - or if they even say anything.

What's disappointing is the blogs that are simply parroting the company line that the Power Lap tires are some kind of Trofeo tire. It's quite obvious that these blogs are simply reposting the Jalopnik information and are not taking any time to review the evidence and make an informed statement of their own.
Anyone with an ounce of common sense in their head can tell you the Power Lap tires are racing slicks. The fact that Pagani says they're street legal doesn't make them any more so.
Some people need to be shown the proof that they're not, and I'm working on that. It still doesn't change the intent of Pagani's actions.

I do not discuss the rest, I am just not convinced. Pirelli is an Italian company and so is their offer - you can not ever be sure they did not produce those Corsas in those dimensions as the offer differed every year and they were produced in very limited numbers. I was ordering them via local director of regional franchise, normal dealers did not even know about them.
