The $700,000 Bugatti Veyron
#11
One such sale doesn't represent all Veyron market. Other Veyrons listed are holding its value pretty good considering the ownership costs and rather huge production run. I know its hard to sell used Veyron because everyone ready to part with more than EUR 1M wants to get a custom brand new delivery miles car, not a used car build to someone's taste. And it is normal until car is very limited and demand exciding supply.
On the other main point is missing - Veyron production run is already stopped. Yes, all 270 coupes are sold. All Supersports are sold out as well, not for a stock, all are secured by real customers. GS is going on not so good considering the price - only 75-80 cars are secured by orders and only 35 are delivered.
So its not possible to get "normal" brand new Veyron coupe from the factory and everyone who will want to buy one, and I am sure there will be such buyers, will start to look for clean used cars and prices will hold up and then can even start to climb higher.

I think people should be verified better before allowed to enter for bidding.

This car was possibly an "EXOTIC RENTAL" car, hence the mileage, or it's a purist who enjoys driving the car. Regardless, he looks like the kind of douchebag who just wanted to "LOOK COOL" bidding $700K on a Veyron in front of THOUSANDS of people in the "TENT" and on TV. Little did he realize, he bid too late, and there was no one else to pick up the next bid. YOU COULD SEE IT IN HIS FACE when the auction closed on the car. The look of "HOLY SHIT, I SHOULD HAVE NOT DONE THIS".....>HAHAHAHA.....
Regardless, I haven't been to any other auctions like Barrett Jackson outside of wholesale car auctions for dealerships, but it seems like Barrett Jackson is always artifically driving the price up for cars in all their shows. If it wasn't for buyers like Richard Pratt, these guys would not be doing as well as they are, but I'm sure Richard doesn't pay the full 10% buyer's fee b/c of the volume of cars he buys from BJ annually, not to mention, he up's the level of HYPE on these cars. You guys ever notice when a car is stuck in a stale bid, how sometimes (especially on the Friday night and Saturday night blocks) the BJ guys stop the bidding, talk a little more, try to upsell "oh this is 1 of 10, oh we'll throw in a pit pass, oh, whatever whatever" to try and drive the price up.....Heck, for the seller's great for them, but for the buyer's, I think this is a RACKET.....
Hell - if that douchebag was smart, he could have probably picked it up and flipped it for $300K pretty quick in the private market. My $.02.

^ You don't simply flip a million dollar car in this economy. And by no means in a quick fashion unless you are talking about an extremely few and rare cars. I can point out to you quite a few enzo's that were for sale for many months on end. I think that BJ is just not the place to sell a car like this, if I want to sell some 1969 camaro by all means great place, but a Euro hyper car no way.

The market is probably softer than most people think. There was a Veyron that sold at a police auction a few months ago for $800K. Veyrons are like high end homes on the West Side of LA. The owner might think it's still worth what they paid for it in 2007, but guess what, it ain't.
BTW, my hunch is that the guy was a shill bidder for Barret Jackson and that's why they kept the bidding going for two minutes after the final bid and that's why Barret Jackson ultimately bought the car -- to avoid an investigation. It just sounds too fishy.
