I have the utmost confidence in Jason Castriota's abilities so it seems my primary gripe should hopefully be solved with the new car. I even like the Bertone Mantide he did and that one certainly isn't to everyone's liking.

I just hope that Jerod can come up with a better name the second time around than Ultimate Aero II or Super Ultimate Aero. Even HotWheels comes up with better names for their cars and they only cost .99¢.

It's a masterpiece of engineering. For having 4 digit hp, you can't imagine how easy it is to drive. Low speeds, high speeds, the car is bulletproof. Its details and refinements put it on par with any other supercar manufacturers with much bigger budgets.

I will not deny that it took them time to perfect the car. I'd like to see all you keyboard supercar manufacturers get it right the first time. Go ahead, let's see you draw something up, fabricate it (you can use all of your own parts so as to avoid the dreadful possibility of using someone else's components when easier), wind tunnel test it, crash test it, win a Guinness record and hold it over the likes of Bugatti for two years.

Those of you who simply jump on the "kit car" bandwagon with nothing else intelligent to say...please turn in your enthusiast cards.

Ben, would you care to comment on what it's like to drive without TC and ABS? Seems like those might come in handy on a car of this caliber.

Traction Control - Mid engine configuration and super wide body (1" wider than an 670-SV) keep tail in check. As someone else mentioned, the car holds the top speed in the Road and Track slalom course over the Enzo. It's capable of 1g easily. The car is very settled in turns and inspires confidence yet the power to weight and slight bias to the rear keeps you on your toes and demands respect. He built a 2800lb car with 1183hp...and it's driveable, not anyone can get in it and drive the car but it encourages the driver to get better. Think TT LP560, take away the AWD, and give it MUCH longer legs.

ABS. The jury is out. I tend to favor ABS but that's just me.

Both of these things - Does a car of this caliber/performance require it? Does it add/detract? If added (and manually disabled), does the driver necessarily know to respect the car that much more? Can it instill false confidence in the driver?

All questions I don't have the definitive answer to...

Wow, some of these SSC bashing posts amaze me. In the same breath these individuals who hide behind keyboards, probably never risking the dollars to own anything north of a Honda yet claim to be exotic enthusiasts? Where did you gain the knowledge to know anything about SSC??? You drive a what??? You visited the factory when??? You drove the car when??? The truth is you don't contribute anything meaningful to the exotic world by calling SSC a "kit car" company and your posts make you look Anna-Nicole-Smith-stupid. The sheer ignorance alone is mystifying and frankly I'm feeling a little embarrassed for you. Big on posts, short on actual knowledge.

Many of you sit there bashing the UA yet forget that ALL super car companies begin with humble beginnings. I'm proud to be a supporter of the company and what these guys have achieved in such a short time. Real car guys would understand the context of everything they have accomplished and people who know better like Jay Leno and others like Jason Castriota get it and have been cheering them on. Their customer list is not made up of a bunch of posers who want to just brag about brand, but are actual DRIVERS who demand something on the ragged edge of performance. Even Bugatti and other super car companies who are out building cars every day and understand the complexity and achievement show SSC more respect!

Jarod never went out and made wild predictions, he modestly put his own money where his mouth is and set the world speed record, a record that was held by SSC for almost THREE years! If it was so easy to achieve, why did it take so long for someone to beat it? That alone is a hell of an accomplishment and the folks at SSC never stop working on their products and each car is built better than the last. Each building on the knowledge gained from the car before. ALL of you should actually be cheering them on for their bold attempt at building something new rather than making embarrassingly ignorant statements about a small production car company. Take the time to actually learn about the car before posting such babble.

Those of us who own exotics and know the factory, we go away very impressed and we've become fans of the company and the people behind it. For the record, in a recent video which we have not posted anywhere publicly, the UA walked away from my SV at a 80+ roll like I was in a Prius.

Also for the world record, SSC did their run on an ACTUAL road, not a large oval track designed for high speed, but a state road, with a typical 60 MPH speed limit, the usual imperfections, with zero margin for error. That risk alone says commitment.

The SSC is a serious car so get over it and actually LEARN something about the car!

+100000000000000000000. I could not agree with you more. I cannot speak from experience like you, but my respect for Jarod Shelby is MASSIVE. To have the drive, determination and skill to build up a company is breathtaking. The amount of work that him and his team must have put into the car is incredible. And as for people calling it a 'kit car' I completely disagree. Sure it may have parts from other cars, but what is wrong with that? All pieces have come together, and all seem to work seamlessly together. Any way you can't claim it is a kit car because a kit car is a car that the owner builds himself. How is this car anything like that? You buy it and you drive it. I also love the looks of this car, I think it is simply, a good looking car.

Thats nicely written UA SSC achieved well during it short period in market. If that guy has higher R&D budget i think he would be doing fine. Just i would like from him to concentrate more on design/styling, i mean to try design a car thats doesnt look like anything else on road. Some small companies are doing this such as Zenvo ST1 have a nice unique styling and powerful engine.


But from what i heard although their top speed run was made on Normal road it was inclined road i think it helped in top speed run. I would really like to see a test of it on a prober dead Flat road or Circuit as the VW Ehra Lessien oval circuit. Do you think it going to reach that claimed speed?

For the Guinness Book of Records to recognize a top speed run, it has to be run in both directions and the top speed is averaged between the two runs. So if they ran that speed downhill, they'd have to run it uphill too to get the record.
