"UFC bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz and top contender Urijah Faber will serve as coaches on the "The Ultimate Fighter 15."

The UFC today announced the coaching assignments.

"TUF 15" (which officials have dubbed "The Ultimate Fighter: LIVE") is the first to air on FOX-owned FX and the first to air live fights. It debuts March 9 at 9 p.m. ET/PT with a two-hour episode. Subsequent episodes air at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

The show is slated for a 13-week run, and lightweight and welterweight fighters will be part of the show's tournament format.

"We're producing ground-breaking television with 'The Ultimate Fighter: Live,' and we can't wait to kick this season off with FX in March," UFC president Dana White stated. "It's going to be can't-miss TV. Dominick Cruz and Urijah Faber are two incredible personalities who also happen to be two of the best fighters in the world. They genuinely dislike each other, and I expect this to make for the best season yet."

As MMAjunkie.com (UFC blog for UFC news, UFC rumors, fighter interviews and event previews/recaps | MMAjunkie.com) reported on Monday, an open tryout for "TUF 15" in Las Vegas drew more than 350 fighters.

Cruz and Faber will meet sometime in mid-2012 following the show's conclusion. It'll be their third meeting; Faber won the first at WEC 26 via submission to defend the WEC featherweight title, and Cruz recently avenged the defeat with a unanimous-decision victory at UFC 132 earlier this year to defend his UFC belt.

The fighters have made no secret of their disdain for each other.

"Anyone who knows me knows that I'm a gym rat and love learning and teaching mixed martial arts," stated the Alliance MMA-based Cruz. "This is a dream come true. To get a chance to coach 'TUF' and beat Faber again is all the motivation I need. This is going to be an insane season of 'The Ultimate Fighter.'"

Faber echoed those sentiments.

"I am looking forward to mentoring a bunch of hungry and talented fighters," stated the Team Alpha Male fighter. "The new cast needs to be ready to work hard and learn. Having Dominick coach on the opposite side couldn't be more perfect. I'm not too thrilled about being in each other's space for an extended period of time, as I am sure we are going to get on each other's nerves. But I can't wait to mentally beat him up as a coach and then literally beat him up in the cage and swipe that UFC strap."

"TUF 14" was the first season of the seven-year-old reality series to feature bantamweight and featherweight fighters. "TUF 15" is the first to feature bantamweight coaches."

After watching a few seasons of TUF, I believe its the quality of the fighters that make it "awesome".. the judges make it "entertaining"..

 

I just can't wait to see their coaching and training techniques. These two guys were game-changers in their divisions. Not all TUF coaches were. It's going to be fun.

"A serious injury has forced Georges St-Pierre (22-2 MMA, 16-2 UFC) out of UFC 143's main event and will sideline him for 10 months.

With the titleholder shelved due to an ACL injury, officials have booked his original opponent, Nick Diaz (26-7 MMA, 7-4 UFC), to meet Carlos Condit (27-5 MMA, 4-1 UFC) for an interim belt in the event's new headliner.

UFC president Dana White today tweeted the news.

"GSP blown acl will be out for 10 mos.," White tweeted. "Now Condit vs Diaz for the interim welterweight title on Feb 4th in Las Vegas!!"

It's not clear if Condit's original opponent at UFC 143, Josh Koscheck (16-5 MMA, 14-5 UFC), will remain on the card.

UFC 143 takes place Feb. 4 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas. The event's main card airs live on pay-per-view.

Condit, of course, initially was slated to fight St-Pierre. However, after Diaz topped B.J. Penn in October at UFC 137, he called out the champ, and St-Pierre campaigned for the fight with him instead. As luck would have it, Condit gets a title shot anyway.

St-Pierre was slated to fight Diaz, the former Strikeforce titleholder, in a champion-vs.-champion fight at UFC 137. However, Diaz no-showed a pair of pre-event press conferences and was pulled from the title fight, and Condit got his spot instead. St-Pierre then was forced off the card with a knee injury (the same knee that was injured again), Condit was put on the shelf, and Diaz defeated Penn in the new headliner before calling out St-Pierre an infamous post-fight interview.

With his dominant unanimous-decision victory over Penn, Diaz now has won 11 straights, and he's 15-1 since 2006. He now meets Condit, a former WEC champion who's 12-1 in his 13 fights. The lone loss came via close split decision to Martin Kampmann in his 2009 octagon debut."
