Villarreal and Arsenal drew 1-1 at Estadio El Madrigal in the Champions League last 16 first leg tonight. Goal.com rates the players on show...
VILLARREAL
Diego Lopez -6.5: Was a safe pair of hands throughout the contest. No goalkeeper in the world would have saved Adebayor's audacious acrobatic effort.
Angel -6.5: Was sound and steady for most of the contest, and set-up a chance for Cani before half time. However, he could have closed down Adebayor quicker for the Arsenal goal.
Godin -8.0: The best defender on the pitch. A number of perfect challenges, one in particular on Adebayor. Missed a great headed opportunity at the death though.
Gonzalo -6.5: Forged a solid centre back partnership with Godin, and gave away little through the middle.
Capdevila -5.5: Dangerous going forward, missing two fine chances in the first half. Suspect defensively though. Positioning was very poor.
Cani -6.5: Linked up well with Angel down the right flank, and also joined in with the play inside. Missed a good chance on 41 minutes to double Villarreal's lead. Strangely subbed at half time.
Senna -8.5: Man-of-the-match. Dictated large spells of the game, Senna's passing and shooting was simply brilliant. Crowned his display with a rocket of a goal into the top corner from 30 yards.
Eguren -6.5: Impressive in the first half, where he dominated the middle-of-the-park with Senna. Allowed Fabregas into the game after the interval
Ibagaza -7.0: A creative genius, Ibagaza played some beautiful, intricate passes in the first half, and always looked like making something happen. Tired as the game wore on, as usual.
Rossi -6.5: A game of two halves. A constant thorn in the first, passing the ball to Senna before the goal, Rossi lost his way in the second.
Llorente -5.0: Started the game brightly, and exchanged passes with Rossi, but then found the going tough, and he was a ghost in the second half before his substitution.
Subs
Fernandez 6.0: A tactical mistake to bring on Fernandez. Lively, but Villarreal lost their shape after his introduction.
Pires -6.0: Helped give Villarreal a bit of a spark.
Franco -N/V: No time to make an impact.
ARSENAL
Almunia -6.0: Could do nothing to stop Senna's piledriver before he was forced off the pitch injured on 27 minutes and replaced by Fabianski.
Sagna -6.0: Caught napping on more than a few occasions, allowing Capdevila to run in behind him. Not one of his best games in an Arsenal shirt.
Toure -6.5: Had a difficult first 45 minutes and could not get near Rossi. Was a tower of strength after the interval, and made one crucial goal-saving challenge on 79 minutes.
Gallas -6.5: Was the best of a shaky Arsenal backline during the first half before, like Almunia, he succumbed to injury before half time.
Clichy -6.5: Very disciplined down the left, and did not bomb forward like he usually does. Did his defensive job.
Song -4.5: Dreadful in the first half. Too slow in closing Rossi and Senna down before the goal, passing was poor, Song also managed to injure team-mate Gallas. Improved a touch as the minutes passed.
Denilson -6.0: A game where you did not even really notice Denilson was on the pitch. Did all the simple things, but did not stamp his authority on the game.
Fabregas -7.0: Started slowly, but then really warmed up just after the break. This ensured Arsenal took charge, and he provided the assist for Adebayor's goal.
Walcott -7.0: Was productive down the right wing, and regularly got in behind the suspect Capdevila. Created a headed chance for Adebayor, and also had one low effort on goal.
Nasri -6.5: Blew hot-and-cold throughout. Had some dangerous runs and efforts, but also wasted some good openings with poor final passes.
Adebayor -8.5: Looked like it was going to be one of those frustrating nights until a moment of absolute genius. Adebayor's bicycle kick alone wins him this rating.
Subs
Fabianski 7.5: Replaced Almunia early, and was decisive. Made a great double save on 29 minutes from Senna and Capdevila to keep the score at 0-1.
Djourou -7.0: Very impressive in defence, Villarreal barely threatened after he came on for the injured Gallas just before half time.
Eboue -N/V: Arrived late in the game.
