Marc, maybe all the old cars you've driven have been beat and unkept. My experience with old cars is 100% the opposite of yours.

Jamie didn't sell his F40 because the brakes and steering sucked...and he didn't own it long enough for it to "sit around", not sure what you're getting at.
And for the record I have also driven an F40 several times, my friend Dr Peter Scalia owned one of the highest mileage F40's (18k+ miles) purchase from Kessler and driven almost daily, Wide World of Cars serviced the car. It had Euro cams installed and gutted cats it was blindingly fast and amazing for its day I saw close to 200mph on the Palisades Interstate heading toward Nyack one evening, but the brakes by todays standards are antique there is no arguing this point.

I drive an '83 911SC every day to and from work 25 miles each way in L.A. and find it very fun, but I actually enjoy driving and my commute doesn't include too much traffic.

I re-read Jamie's thread and couldn't find anywhere where he says the brakes or steering suck. Lack of power steering or vacuum-assisted brakes have nothing to do with the braking performance of the car.

I drive a good amount of newer high-end cars for work and they're good if you don't care for driving and need to just get from A to B. But even the newer sports cars are kind of boring at normal speeds, and besides the sound, they all drive very similar when compared to the classics.
