Porsche to cut production in Jan 09'
#1
Volkswagen and its future owner Porsche announced Tuesday that they are very likely to cut production temporarily due to a global slow-down in automotive sales. Volkswagen has been considering a closure of its main plant in northern Wolfsburg. It is also expected to close the plant for three weeks from Dec. 18 to Jan. 11 to avoid overproduction. Sports manufacturer Porsche said that it is also considering cutting production. It idled output last Friday at its plant in southwestern and is now considering more suspensions for a total of 7 days in January.
“Porsche cannot remain aloof from the current downward trend in the auto industry,” it said in a statement.
Many German automakers including Daimler, BMW and Opel, said that they will idle assembly lines during the year-end holidays.
