I remember a similar incident happening last season in the Grand-Am series...not quite as many cars damaged though, but it still affected a few. Maybe it's the same safety car driver?

Wait a minute, the pit lane is well before the start line. Shouldn't the starter ensure that the pace car has turned into pit road prior to actuating the start sequence (green light)? How could such a debacle be levied on a single individual (pace car driver)?

You can clearly see a yellow flag being waved just after the last corner across from pit entrance and another along the straight across from pit exit even when the green light is displayed.
