Bourdais 'impressed' with Le Mans pole

Bourdais 'impressed' with Le Mans pole - Le Mans Series news - GPUpdate.net

Sébastien Bourdais is delighted with Peugeot's efforts, which allowed him to hold on to pole position for this weekend's Le Mans 24 Hours on Thursday evening. The former Toro Rosso F1 driver will start the legendary race ahead of three more Peugeots, with the leading Audi in fifth.

With a works Peugeot 1-2-3, amid which the second car contains England's Anthony Davidson, Olivier Panis enjoyed fourth for ORECA Peugeot ahead of the three Audis. The Beechdean Ginetta of Nigel Mansell will set off from 18th, as the 1992 World Champion races alongside sons Greg and Leo.

"It was a really, really strong effort," Bourdais said after the third and final qualifying session.

"Everyone is really happy with the performance of the car and how comfortable it is to drive - I am very proud to put the #3 car on pole but this is only the start…

"Obviously, we are happy that Audi didn't put on a great show - or display a great amount of speed - but, honestly, we're just focused on our own things to be able to make our car the fastest one and to be in a good position for the race.

"The tough job is still ahead of us; we're not going to get carried away - we will just stay smart and be conservative when we have to be. I am impressed with the margin of progress we've displayed."
