Formula One news: Schumacher pleased with Friday run - GPUpdate.net Formula One

Michael Schumacher enjoyed the mileage at Mugello on Friday as the German tested Ferrari's F2007 ahead of his dramatic return to Formula One in Valencia later this month. The German is currently unable to test the current racer due to testing restrictions although the seven-time World Champion has described his latest experience as a 'great thing'.
With in-season testing banned in 2009, the reigning Constructors' World Champions took advantage of a loophole in the rules by running their double title-winning 2007 car; with the car having been developed by F1 Clienti, a workshop of Ferrari but not the team Ferrari itself, the running of the vehicle was not classed as a test and therefore within the bounds of the rules. The car ran on slick tyres, albeit those used in GP2.
Schumacher's best lap on the Italian circuit beat Felipe Massa's winter 2009 time by over two tenths of a second although, with the car greatly different in terms of aerodynamics, comparisons are tough to read into.
"It's a great thing. getting back on the track with an F1, even if this is a car from 2007 and obviously no real point of reference," reported Michael, who will replace the injured Massa until the Brazilian is able to return. "After a couple of laps I was able to drive constant lap times and I'm happy with the performance - now we've got to see how my body and the muscles respond over the next few days."

I was out on vacay for a while. This is great news. Lewis and Schumi on the same track. I really hope he can ramp up in time and be competitive so that he's not just there to warm a seat. He might stick around the duration of the season and get back to his old form.
