Inevitably, there would be some that tried to visit the "pre-race thread", don't see anyone there and then leave. Or we would have 2 threads going at once. I could close one but then we have the first problem again.

In need to keep it simple enough to allow our most unsophisticated members to join us. I think Tuuner may be too confused by multiple threads.

It would make sense to lock the pre-race thread after the split for those who are late to the race thread. The race thread would be the only active thread after the lock.
