I take 99% of my own jewelry shots. Im no expert but Im happy enough that I dont get them professionally done (i have before) I need an upgrade from my current Canon SD-1000 which I really like and has served me well. I have had good luck with Canons on macro shots. I have a cap of 400.00 for a point and shoot camera. I dont want to invest more into a DSLR, because of the need for multiple lenses and expense, that and Im no photog.hwell: 85% of the camera use will be for macro shots.

I'll check out my S95 more to see how it is for macro's...it's a great point and shoot and highly regarded by professionals...I'd start there.

Picked up the S95 and I really love it, has a neat built in HDR feature. I have yet to shoot any jewelry with it in macro mode, but I am enjoying it as a high quality point and shoot. Now I think I want a DSLR

 

Moreso than the camera, lighting will make a substantial difference.

It can be cheap, especially for small jewelry where you don't need a large lightbox, and yield significant improvements even with a P&S camera.
And by cheap, I mean "a cardboard box and bits of paper" cheap.

 

i agree with you wholeheartedly, the majority of my work I post has been done with a sub $200 p&s in macro mode.

the S95 is a great camera, quality to price ratio is excellent

 

The flash quit working on my old P&S a few days ago so I picked up the S95 today. I was due for an upgrade. Thanks for the recommendations in this thread. Great little camera. I'm totally blown away at the image quality and all of it's functions.

 

Im loving this camera, but its making me want a DSLR now soooo badly, as well as learn more about photography. Its been a lot of fun shooting stuff lately. This S95 has a cool built in HDR mode.
