Spied: Next Generation Audi Q7

Our trusty Teamspeed spies bring us the first photos of a "mule" for the next generation Audi Q7. The photos attached show us the fenders on this mule are wider then the current model Q7, it also appears the front overhang is bit shorter.

However, the real changes are hidden under the skin, with Audi set to reinvent its full-size SUV. Just like the upcoming Range Rover, the Q7 is expected to be a lot lighter when it arrives on the marker, with the car set to lose about 400 kg. While the VW Group is already familiar with such a process (the company has already done this for the VW Touareg and the Porsche Cayenne), the engineers now face more and more challenges, as the competition in the SUV segment is fiercer than ever.

"There is no doubt that crossovers are still selling like hotcakes even though the trend seems to be shifting toward more compact models," said Audi chairman Rupert Stadler.

It seems to me that the X5, Toureg and now the Q7 have all gone the way of the weak. Meaning, they've not really altered the look of their SUV's. I know people say the Cayenne looks similiar ;but compared to the other 3, its drastically changed. Same with Mercedes ML.

I just don't get it. Bean counters scared maybe?
