Considering a Monster 1100

Hi folks

I want to get back into riding and the Monster seems like the right bike for me. The prices of used vs new push me towards just buying a new bike but I wanted to get some feedback from you guys.

What are the differences between a 2009 1100S and a 2011 Evo? Is it just the ABS and the traction control? Did they change much else?

I'm eyeballing a 2009 right now. Low miles (4000+) but he is trying to reclaim the value of this mods over KBB so he's priced above the cost of a new bike.

Is it worth it to find a used bike, broken in, tastefully modded and save a few thousand $$ on the initial buy-in? Or are the 2011's SO much nicer that it is worth it to just buy new and avoid any second-owner surprises?

And can any owners chime in with the service intervals? When does the second service occur and what is involved?

While I have your attention... I notice a lot of folks going for the 796 instead of the 1100. I read that they made the 796 to get around European taxes on 1000+ cc bikes. On paper the 1100 seems like the better bike (same weight, dimensions, etc). I've read that the riding position on the 796 is more "user friendly" but the 1100 has that nice extra 20hp. The 796 is a few thousand dollars less than the 1100 Evo...

Can someone here describe the difference between the two models that makes the 796 more "user friendly"? Is it just a more upright position with easier reach to the bars or something? Is it a cG difference? How different do the two bikes feel? (My nearest Ducati dealer is several hours away so I can't just go butt-test on a whim).

Thanks!

The 1100 EVO is awesome and has the Safety Package as well. I like the 796 which I bought instead due to ride height as I am shorter and the
seat is higher on the 1100.

Monster 900 rider for a while. I would go with the 1100.

Handle bar risers can aide long ride comfort at expense of keeping weight over front wheel.

I am 5'8" the seat height on the 796 is perfect for me
the 1100 is about 1" taller by spec.

Ok so...

2012 1100 Evo

or

tastefully modded 2008 S4RS Tricolore?

I'm inclined to go with the S4RS. What would I be missing out on if I buy the older bike, besides TCS and ABS?

Traction control... Never had it no recomendation either way.

ABS. I recommend it big time. Once you have it you don't go back

I believe the 1100 EVO has a wet slipper clutch instead of the dry clutch as the old Monster 1100 did, as well as more power, and cosmetic differences.
