I've been watching youtube video's of various RC's with a big shit eating grin.
they say, 'three times a charm'.
Here's my advice.
Forget the performance numbers.
Forget the magazine reviews.
Forget what the rational voice on your shoulder is telling you to do...there's nothing rational about the sport...that's the beauty of it.
Get the bike that moves you standing still. You're clearly still in love with the RC. Maybe it's that v-twin growl that will cause a smile every single time you roll on the throttle. Maybe it's the timeless styling...much like the E30 M3 and 916 Duck...the RC styling is classic. Or maybe it's the fact that it has World Superbike pedigree in it's blood. Let us not forget our good man Colin Edwards handed the Italians and the other big 3 their asses on a platter for the title...twice.
Unless you're a GP level rider even a modern day 600cc sportbike will only be used to a 1/4 of it's potential on the street. Buy the bike that makes you go out to the garage and stare for no reason at all.

And yes, a lot of bikes are faster. However, unless you're competitively racing the thing, you're not going to notice on the street, and you are going to have a lot more fun on the much narrower, much better handling Duc.
Plus, it's not going to lose half its value in two years.

The 916 and 996 are effectively the same bike short of the displacement. The seat, bar and peg setup is exactly the same. If you want to be a girl, you can always run heli-bars and an old fart seat.

RC has a wider tank, which I can hold better with my legs= no nut crushing.
-not to mention the RC has held it's value just as well. And spanking a few ducs was always fun as well. Wouldn't be possible on the new 1098/1198's that's for sure. But like both you and SAB stated, it's not all about the power or how fast you can go.

It's weird, some fit on the RC51 and not the Duc and some fit on the Duc and not the RC. I think the RC is a torture rack but the Duc is reasonably comfy to me. Still it's moot since any modern 600SS would absolutely destroy a 916.
