I don't remember what it is, but if you're buying used you need to make sure it's been done. And remember, it's a dirt bike as far as maintenance goes, you won't be touring on that thing.
It's the engine case gasket. Aprilias have orange engine (ie orange engine case gasket) and the others. The orange gasket tends to deteriorate, no wait. Sorry. The orange will deteriorate and cause a lot of trouble. Any orange engine will have to be opened up and put back together with proper gasket material. They claim it's only a first year issue, not sure I believe it.

Also they are VERY high maintenance, think 3-5k for a top end rebuild. Not just valve adjustment. Top end. Pistons, rings, etc. Interestingly enough they have one ring per pisto (vs 2-3 for more conventional engines). They are very high strung and you pay the price. Oil change every 1k.

And yet, I still find myself wanting one real bad. Like really real bad.

FWIW, a friend had a Dorsoduro 750 and destroyed the engine ... bad crank assembly at the factory. Not really statistically significant, but hey. He got a Shiver afterwards, still runs and he likes it.

1k oil changes on that motor will kill it...try 250 miles My Husky is the same. If you want high-strung street supermoto, Husky > Ape any day...but once they get that reliability and longevity up there, look out. First year Apes were getting destroyed in AMA Supermoto cuz they couldn't finish a race, they'd destroy transmissions on the urbancross jumps. Next year they won. They'll be there, but I wouldn't buy one yet.

I considered the 600RR for a while but I didn't really look at anything. I tend to buy whatever bike makes my dick hard. The only bike I genuinely researched was that horrible Triumph 955i and it ended up being the worst bike I've ever owned. I went back to using my dick as a divining rod and have been happy ever since

That's a problem. The bike I really want is this puppy. And it's not legal over here, I haven't found any sneaky way to bring one over and plate it ...

And yeah, 250 miles. Got my km to mi conversion fuxored. I'm sure one could push it to 5-600mi if used on the street and an extra oil cooler (hence the 1000km). But it's still ridiculous. And yet I still want one.

Since you loved the RC, have you looked at Aprilia RSV-Rs? Looks like they can be had pretty close to your budget.

MV didn't go through the approval process with Transport Canada (for whatever reason) ... so I wouldn't be able to import it for street use over here. Even though it complies with US regulations. It's ridiculous, and driving me nuts.
