Ferrari promises to cut delivery time on new models

2010 Ferrari 458 Italia
"If you order a Ferrari 458 Italia today, you’ll have to wait up to two years to take delivery of your precious Italian stallion. Well, Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo has promised to reduce waiting times for all new cars to less than a year. Currently, the 599, 430, 430 Spider and 612 Scaglietti all have waiting lists in upwards of 18 months. di Montezemolo said that the waiting time is hurting the brand’s image and may cause potential shoppers to look at another brand.
“It looks bad against the competition,” he told AutoCar. “We’re not talking about building more cars, we’re talking about building them quicker.
Refresher: Power comes from a mid-rear mounted 4.5L V8 producing 570-hp at 9,000 rpm with a maximum torque of 398 lb-ft at 6,000 rpm. Mated to a dual-clutch 7-speed F1 gearbox, 0 to 62 mph comes in just 3.4 seconds with a top speed of over 202 mph."

That's always what has annoyed me with Ferrari, there is nothing exclusive or "wow" about waiting 2 years for a car. Especially when it's just one of their mass produced models. If it were a special edition, it would be a bit more understandable.

bad news for the Ferrari stores that were charging huge markups to get one of their cars......
also, why would you want to keep your customers waiting for a product for 2 years? I mean, I understand that it's worked thus far and their customers have waited and all but it makes no sense to me
