Report: McLaren MP4-12C Smashes Top Gear Lap Record
#51
The MP4 is built to be a car for every day use. For being an allround sportscar it is remarkebly light and quick, no doubt about that. But the GT2rs is built for one single purpose, being quick around the track. Nothing else. You can quote me again if you like, if a car magazine manages to drive the MP4 around the ring in less than 7:30 I will be very impressed.
The GT2RS and MP4-12C are very close in price, power, and performance. I don't see why it'd be such a surprise if the ring times were really close. I'd tip the MP4-12C to surpass the GT2RS on the track because it has the clear technology advantage which it will make very good use of on the track.

Speaking of cooking things up, that nut might taste better with a little time in the oven.

Actually, I'd love to see the day when BS speculation on lap times are a thing of the past. A manufacturer actually has more power to prevent this from happening that most would think.
Sorry. I'm angered by the fact I just got the latest issue of EVO in the mail today, and guess what? No INDEPENDENT lap times or performance numbers for the GT2 RS. Still.

The GT2 RS is somewhere between 1.18-1.24. Different sources post different times as there is a 232 meter shorter way to finish the track.
The GTR is right behind that time.
The ZR1 and Enzo are both ~1.26 cars. I would believe >1.18 on the full non-public setup track.

While I am sure more than one F1 has gone around Dunsfold, there's never been a time released - official or otherwise.
The same is true of the F1 at the 'Ring. Past speculation has put the road car anywhere between 7:20 and 7:40. Remember the tires are old tech with tall sidewalls, the brakes are unassisted and prone to fade under heavy repeated use, and finally it lacks downforce.
No doubt the 12C could take it around almost any track you could imagine.
