The McLaren has an AIRBRAKE that deploys at speed and you think it won't be as fast as the 911 GT2RS around the 'Ring? Think about that - in addition to slowing the car down significantly it also plants the rear of the car allowing the rear brakes to be more effective under braking. That's just one advantage the 12C has over the Porsche.

Take the transmission - the 12C uses a 7-speed sequential with pre-cog for near instantaneous shifts. The GT2 RS just has a tradition 6-speed manual. Add a few more seconds of advantage for the 12C of the course of a lap of the 'Ring.

It all adds up - or does it subtract?

Anyway, the 12C is sure to be quicker.

I agree. The GT2 RS may be faster down the long back straight at the 'Ring, but I also think the MP4-12C would be faster through the corners etc. We will just have to wait and see.

The 599XX did the ring in ~6:58. If the MP4 is 7 flat that is absurd. I look forward to official numbers as I feel this car will be spectacular.

I don't agree with 7 mins flat, but I think it will eclipse the GTR RS official time of 7:18.

I'm guessing it'll do 7:12 - 7:15 around the 'ring.

Yep, that's about what I am expecting. Definitely not a 7 flat. No way it could be that close to the 599XX and Zonda R at 6:47.

And the lowest center of gravity of almost supercars that we know, plus a carbon tub that is more rigid and better balanced and some other stuff that i would have to go too technical to explain. I did not told you guys that is was 7s flat, i told you that rumors say that is was very near to 7s flat. Maybe 10s less that the GT-R.

I think we can speculate all we like, but the lightweight spec car could set a blistering time. There are only a few parts of the 'Ring that are geared towards top speed (where the likes of the GT2 RS, Zonda etc benefit).

As well as the carbon tub, air-brake, etc, the dynamic 'Brake Steer' will also help lower the MP4-12C lap-time as it will maximise entry and exit speed from the 70-ish corners! Either way, it's going to be VERY interesting to see what the car can actually do.

Sounds awesome. I'll wait for the TG episode and official times though. Sounds like it might be too good to be true.

Hehe you crack me up. Since when is the AIRBRAKE the most important feature of a sportscar? Guess which other cars have airbrakes, and one of them also a 7-speed dct:

These two cars aren't anywhere near the GT2RS around the ring even though they have the mighty airbrake

The airbrake also doesnt give the MP4 more downforce when its needed cuz it won't be deployed in quick corners. I could go on and on.

The MP4 is built to be a car for every day use. For being an allround sportscar it is remarkebly light and quick, no doubt about that. But the GT2rs is built for one single purpose, being quick around the track. Nothing else.
You can quote me again if you like, if a car magazine manages to drive the MP4 around the ring in less than 7:30 I will be very impressed.
