The V8 in the E9X is actually lighter than the I6 S54 from the E46 M3's. The S54 was an iron block causing the E46 M3 to be significantly heavier than a normal 3-series. 3415 lbs Vs. 3285 lbs for a 330Ci.

It would be interesting to see the weight of the M3's V8 relative to the iron block in the e30 M3's. I wonder how much heavier the V8 is?
