All it takes is money.

BMW used to charge 2400 for custom paint.

Now it's more than 5K. Isn't that more than Porsche paint to sample?

if we're *really* lucky, 1M sales will go through the roof - and maybe, just maybe, maybe, manufacturers will notice that the "M-type crowd" (eg, enthusiasts) wants lighter, nimbler cars - not luxury sports cars.

a used 1M, in the 30s, looks like the *perfect* city car

Rather have a used M3. I love having a high revving motor like a true M car should have. Pity that the 1M doesnt have it.

1M being 240 pounds less is nice though.

That would be tough. I'd have to drive both to make a decision but I'd probably end up going with the M3.

This is such a great topic as I was considering these 2 cars for myself. The 1-series is still growing on me but since the announcement of the 1M something in me makes me want to get one. I know that this car would be my daily driver and will see the track occasionally, therefore the M3 sedan made it to the top of my list. Both are great cars but if I had to decide today I can only commit to the M3 and I would want to keep it longer than the 1M. The 1M would be fun but over time I would grow out of it.

Hard one to guess without driving the 1M first. I know how good the M3 is, so I really don't know if the 1M will make it worth while to own it instead.

Is BMW still planning on limiting production on the 1M? Last I heard, they were going to build less than 1,000 for the US.
